April is the designated month to get the news about Occupational Therapy to the public! For April 2008 our public relations officer along with other SOTA members set up a booth in the LSU hospital to provide information about all the aspects of life that OT can address.

Text Box: SOTA organized an information session for the PT students at LSUHSC to learn what occupational therapists do in different settings. and how OT’s can collaborate with PT’s to provide the best services to clients.

LSUHSC– Shreveport SOTA

Text Box: To educate parents and children about health concerns associated with backpacks that are too heavy, the SOTA set up a booth for “Boo on the Boardwalk” October 31, 2008. In addition to handing out candy to trick-or-treaters, SOTA demonstrated appropriate backpack weight, fit and wearing techniques. Parents and students were given take-home flyers to serve as reminders.

Text Box: Four OT students introduced high school students to OT. They demonstrated some interesting and  exciting areas that OT’s can practice in.  The high school students examined some pieces of equipment and gadgets and then tried to guess what each piece was used for and then try them out.
